April 16, 2005Odometer: 63500 (upon purchase) As of April 2005, this is my new daily driver. This car was brought to my attention by the previous owner. She had visited my web site and used the Contact Me link to send me an email enquiring where I would recommend her listing the car for sale on the Internet. Once she told me she had a low mile convertible, I became interested. To make a long story short, we traded several emails regarding the car and on Friday, April 15th, I flew to Washington DC and bought the car Saturday morning. On the drive home, I managed a low of 26 mpg making 75-80 mph down I-81 through the Appalachia mountain range on the west side of Virginia, to a high of 29-30 mpg the rest of the way. Unfortunately, it was too darn chilly to put the top down till I hit I-12 near New Orleans. I drove pretty-much straight-through (save 4 hours at a rest stop somewhere along I-59 in Mississippi) departing Alexandria, Virginia, at 11:30 am Saturday morning and pulling into my driveway near Conroe, Texas, at 11:30 am Sunday morning. That's 1450 miles in 20 hours.. for an average speed of ~72 mph. ;-) With my V1 radar detector above my dash, I'm continually amazed by the number of people who insist on running without a radar detector in front of me. Of course, I am more than happy to oblige their taking point, and all the more better if they stay in the left lane.. But that's another story for another day. I love cross-country driving..! Here are more photos. Enjoy! |
